The Cellular Biologist track encompasses the technical staff whose primary responsibilities concern cellular and molecular biology laboratory techniques. These responsibilities are diverse; examples include cell culture establishment and maintenance; biospecimen handling, tissue dissociation and nuclei extraction; capturing, manipulating, amplifying nucleic acid; building NGS libraries; confocal, fluorescence, and multiplexed microscopy; liquid-handling platform management; protocol development and optimization; data collection and analysis.  This role will involve working to interpret data, improve laboratory workflows, and optimize processes.  The Cellular Biologist may be required to work flexible shifts that may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on the demands of laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

  • High throughput single cell genomic and multiomic assay execution and development (10x Genomics, SMARTseq, sci-seq).  This includes handling cell suspensions, cryopreservation & thawing, cell counting, viability and antibody staining, and sample quality control.
  • Immunohistochemistry, hyperplex imaging techniques (CODEX, CellDive), confocal and advanced microscopy techniques, tissue handling, and histological practices.
  • Spatial transcriptomics (Visium, SlideSeq, GeoMx), in situ RNA-based assays (smFISH, RNAScope), highly multiplexed FISH (CosMx, Xenium, MERSCOPE).
  • Preparing stocks, buffers, media with sterile techniques
  • Writing laboratory protocols for experiments; organize and summarize data in collaboration with team using electronic lab notebooks.
  • Assist with stocking, ordering, maintaining, and tracking resources, chemicals, supplies. Assist with laboratory cleanups and inspections.
  • Assist with performing regular maintenance and calibration of equipment, ensuring equipment is operational.
  • Present and discuss experiments and results at group meetings.  Communicate with vendors and users.

  • Knowledge of or experience working with various laboratory equipment, including but not limited to biosafety cabinets, PCR/qPCR instruments, fluorescence microscopes, cell counters, CO2 incubators, centrifuges, and autoclaves.  Prior experience in a laboratory setting and basic knowledge of laboratory procedures and safety practices is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritizing, and decision-making skills.
  • Detail-orientated, self-motivated, and highly organized.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform standard repetitive techniques that may be required in protocols related to the laboratory.
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply protocols in conducting experiments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Regular, reliable, and consistent attendance. Ability to work occasional flexible shifts (evening, weekend, holiday)
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related scientific discipline is required. A minimum of 2 years of experience in a scientific role is required for consideration with a bachelor’s degree in a different discipline.
