DocGo Expands Mobile Phlebotomy Capabilities with PTI Health Acquisition

The move reinforces DocGo's vertically integrated care model, merging advanced telemedicine and mobile diagnostics to improve patient outcomes.

DocGo Inc. today announced its acquisition of PTI Health, enabling both companies to bolster their service portfolios.

DocGo gains enhanced mobile lab collection and mobile phlebotomy services, while PTI Health receives the backing of a nationwide technology-enabled mobile health provider. This strategic move addresses critical gaps in diagnostic care for patients who struggle with transportation or have limited access to traditional laboratory facilities.

DocGo’s acquisition of PTI Health has already made waves in the market, with the company’s stock seeing notable growth. The stock has surged by 7.9%, signaling potential investor confidence in the company’s expansion into mobile lab collections and phlebotomy services.

DocGo is renowned for its comprehensive healthcare delivery solutions — ranging from mobile health visits and remote patient monitoring to emergency medical transport — that bridge the gap between physical and virtual care.

In a 2023 interview with Xtalks, DocGo explained that its on-demand urgent care services are designed to not only to enhance patient outcomes but also to help payers reduce costs — a vision that now extends to its expanded mobile phlebotomy and lab collection services.

In contrast, PTI Health specializes in at-home blood draws and lab collections, supported by a seasoned team of mobile phlebotomists and partnerships with the nation’s two largest laboratory service providers. This expertise has reliably served thousands of patients annually.

Recent survey data from Tasso Inc. revealed that nearly one in three patients delay diagnostic blood tests due to the anxiety and discomfort associated with traditional phlebotomy, with 74% expressing interest in painless home blood collection technology. Although 73% of respondents have purchased home health testing kits, only 15% have completed a home blood test, highlighting a significant opportunity to enhance patient compliance.

By integrating PTI Health’s capabilities, DocGo will expand its vertically integrated care model — seamlessly connecting diagnostic, primary and emergency care services to deliver a comprehensive patient experience.

Lee Bienstock, CEO of DocGo, is confident that incorporating mobile lab collection and phlebotomy services will enable the company to deliver timely and convenient care, particularly for underserved populations.

Supporting this approach, a study published in JNCI Cancer Spectrum demonstrated that mobile phlebotomy is both feasible and highly acceptable among cancer patients. In the study, 345 patients completed 1,464 home lab collection visits, with specimen quality consistently exceeding clinical benchmarks and nearly all respondents indicating they would use the service again. These findings underscore the value of at-home diagnostic care in reducing time toxicity (the burden of time spent traveling and waiting for in-person care) and improving patient convenience.

Additionally, DocGo plans to expand PTI Health’s operations into New York City to address diagnostic and primary care shortages in densely populated urban areas. Broader industry trends further validate this strategic shift.

Telemedicine — including telehealth devices, point-of-care testing systems and electronic health records (EHRs) — is on the rise, and the mobile health vehicle market is projected to grow from $244.8 million in 2023 to $383.3 million by 2030 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.6%.

Innovations like BD and Babson Diagnostics’ fingertip blood testing, which requires just six drops of blood, further exemplify the industry’s move toward patient-centric, technologically advanced diagnostic solutions.
