Medtech layoffs in early 2026 are affecting both device manufacturers and diagnostics companies, with workforce reductions tied to site closures, restructuring and contract changes.

In 2025, several large medtech employers announced workforce reductions. Surgical robotics company Intuitive Surgical said it would cut 331 jobs at its Sunnyvale, California site as it adjusted production schedules, impacting manufacturing, assembly and related support roles.

That same year, Dexcom disclosed layoffs affecting hundreds of employees, including manufacturing and operations roles, with nearly 200 positions impacted in the San Diego area. The company had also carried out workforce reductions in the prior year.

Workforce reductions were also reported in 2025 at the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health as part of staffing changes across the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). While the global medical devices market was valued at more than $570 billion in 2025 and is projected to increase in 2026, medical device and medtech workforce reductions are continuing into 2026.

In this blog, we track ongoing and proposed medical device and medtech layoffs announced in 2026.
