National Nurses Week is celebrated every year to show appreciation to the nurses around the world. This year the celebrations begin on May 6 and end on May 12, and International Nurses Day is celebrated on May 12. The theme for this year’s nurse’s week is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead – A vision for future healthcare.” This week of appreciation sheds light on the power that nurses have in shaping the future of healthcare and transforming it to the next stage.
Here’s how these four companies are celebrating National Nurses Week.
Crocs
To celebrate National Nurses Day, Crocs, a staple in nurses’ fashion, is offering a “Free Pair for Healthcare” workers. The brand is giving away 10,000 pairs of Crocs at Work shoes per day to frontline healthcare workers.
“Free Pair for Healthcare” was initiated in response to requests from Crocs enthusiasts that look for comfortable and clean footwear that can be worn for long hours. Crocs donated over 860,000 shoes in 2020 to healthcare workers and this year, their donations will reach a total of 900,000 pairs of shoes to the frontlines.
This initiative was first launched in 2020 to provide healthcare workers with comfort while helping support their fight against COVID-19. This year the program started on May 10 and will end on May 14. Each day the website will be open for requests and will remain open until all pairs for that day have been claimed.
“We are thrilled to bring back our ‘Free Pair for Healthcare’ program and celebrate our frontline healthcare heroes who have worked harder than ever before to provide comfort in our communities over the past year,” said Crocs CEO Andrew Rees in a press release. “Last year’s program reinforced for our brand that doing the right thing is the right thing for Crocs, and we are honored to be able to take this moment to once again provide our shoes, this time as a thank you for the incredible work these individuals do each and every day.”
Potbelly Sandwich Shop
To celebrate this year’s National Nurses Week, Potbelly Sandwich Shop is offering nurses a free cookie and a fountain drink when they order any entrée from May 6 to May 12. The only requirement is to show one’s medical ID in-shop and choose from the variety offered.
Additionally, Potbelly Sandwich Shop dropped off free batches of their cookies to hospitals across the country — some of these hospitals include Community Hospital in Munster, IN and Lurie Children’s in Chicago.
Outback Steakhouse
Outback Steakhouse is offering heroes 10 percent off their entire check all day and every day between May 6 to 12.
In addition to nurses, this offer is available to all teachers, doctors, medical staff, military veterans, servicemen and women, police, firefighters, and first responders. All that is required is a valid medical, state, or federal service ID.
Chipotle
Chipotle is offering 250,000 free burritos for healthcare workers. Frontline workers can receive their code for a free burrito by visiting Chipotle’s website and verifying their occupation.
Their website states, “To all the hard-working, extra-shift-taking lifesavers who put the care in healthcare, we want to thank you for all you do.”
Additionally, the dedicated page offers a scroll through what they call “A Wall of Gratitude” that showcases messages from people in the US sharing their appreciation for nurses. Statements posted so far include, “@gab_baby43-The hardest working, most caring, most gorgeous, talented nurse I’ve ever met. Most deserving of a burrito bowl out there,” and, “My wife @erinluciafashola – world’s best nurse! Always goes above and beyond for each patient and treats them with love and respect.”
Nurses Week was created to bring attention to nurses and increase awareness of the important work they do among the public, policymakers and governments.
In 1971, The International Council of Nurses (ICN) announced that May 12 would be the official International Nurses Day celebration on the birthday of nursing pioneer and the founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
