Recent technological advancements resulted in explosive data growth while cloud technology has given life sciences and pharma companies the speed, scalability and elasticity required to managed large, disparate scientific data. Additionally, advanced analytics and data science applications like artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI/ML) provide novel and more accurate insights, increasing the velocity of scientific innovation and discovery.

However, new and innovative approaches to accelerate drug discovery and development cannot address the fundamental problem the life sciences industry still faces — a fragmented and chaotic data ecosystem. The recent “2022 State of the Digital Lab Transformation in Biopharma” report by TetraScience in collaboration with Pharma IQ, highlighted these significant challenges blocking discovery:

  • 66% have difficulty accessing their data
  • 50% of scientists’ and data scientists’ time is spent on manual data transformation, instead of higher-value work
  • 49% of scientific data does not adhere to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles

Legacy systems, point-to-point brittle integrations between instrumentation and informatics software, and a multitude of disparate data file formats perpetuate data silos. They also increase resource expenditure and risks to data integrity in an effort to mitigate, and impede the use of advanced analytics and AI/ML.

To drive scientific outcomes and innovation and leverage the power of AI/ML, modern data-driven drug discovery must be fueled by scientific data that are:

  • Accessible, searchable and actionable
  • Harmonized from disparate data models
  • Fluid between instruments, systems and software
  • Compliant with GxP and other regulatory requirements

Join this webinar to learn what life sciences and pharma companies gain once all of their data is available across Electronic Laboratory Notebooks/Laboratory Information Management Systems (ELN/LIMS), instrument and control software, and prepared for advanced analytics, AI/ML and visualization. With unfettered access to scientific data that are compliant, harmonized, liquid and actionable in the cloud, companies improve laboratory efficiency and productivity, bring better products to market faster and identify new opportunities to positively impact human lives.

Ken Fountain, TetraScience

Ken Fountain, Field Scientist, TetraScience

Ken is currently a Lead Scientific Business Analyst at Tetrascience, where he develops use cases to help pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies replatform their R&D data to the cloud.  Ken began his career as a chemist at Waters Corporation in 2001, where he developed analytical methods for oligonucleotide, peptide, and protein analysis. In 2004, he moved to Genzyme Corporation (now Sanofi Genzyme), where he implemented UPLC for the analysis of small molecules. Ken returned to Waters in 2007, where he managed the Chemistry Applied Technology and Technology Advancement groups, both of which focused on development and application of consumables for the pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and food and environmental markets. Ken also served as Director of the Biopharmaceutical Business, Senior Director of Scientific Operations, and Senior Director of Global Products responsible for new LC technology development at Waters.  Before joining Tetrascience, Ken was a Senior Research Fellow at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Boston, Massachusetts, where he led all analytical development activities for the next generation cystic fibrosis potentiator (VX-561), as well as all analytical HPLC method development efforts for small molecule drug assets in the acute and chronic pain disease area.  Ken received his B.S. in Biotechnology from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Worcester, MA) and his M.S. in Chemistry from Tufts University (Medford, MA).
