Collagen has taken the areas of beauty and anti-aging by storm, up by more than 56% in the natural channel alone in 2019, according to a 2020 Nutritional Outlook ‘Ingredients to Watch’ US forecast. Collagen ingredients have matured in front of our very eyes – moving further and further away from the high molecular weight, low-impact products of the past to the clinically-studied, low-molecular weight hydrolysates of today.

Collagen sourcing has also been an evolving area of product development, whereby commercial traditions have favored bovine and porcine sources, but are changing in the face of contemporary consumer preferences and developing markets in territories with dietary restrictions. In light of this, marine-sourced collagen is on a fast-track to become a formidable competitor.

Even among the most competitive of brands, there remain a considerable number of unknown variables; aspects of a collagen products portfolio that should be accounted for. We call this The Collagen Trifecta. The collagen trifecta is the ideal composite of mechanisms that a collagen ingredient can offer in its support of beauty-from-within and joint health claims. These should ultimately translate into benefits that are consumer validated and add value in terms of enhanced market confidence. A collagen product should protect, stimulate and build, but unfortunately, most can only substantiate their collagen building activity.

Tripeptides, uniquely standardized in our branded collagen ingredient Morikol, takes the guess work out of that game. Morikol is standardized to 15% tripeptides, an active ingredient shown to protect, stimulate AND build collagen. Morikol not only delivers the industry’s lowest molecular weight collagen product, averaging 1500 daltons, but also sources it from clean-cultivated fish for a certified-Kosher end product. The synergism of the trifecta significantly reduces the clinically-supported dose to ONLY 1g/day for beauty-from-within applications. At such low doses, options previously unavailable or downright inconvenient to collagen intake, i.e. capsules or on-the-go dispersible formats, become a sustainable reality.

Established in 2007 as an extension of its founding corporation Orcas Naturals, DolCas was formed in response to the then-budding interest in branded nutraceuticals.
