International Women’s Day 2024: A Spotlight on 5 Women’s Health Webinars with Xtalks

International Women’s Day celebrates women’s achievements and highlights important issues including women’s health issues.

International Women’s Day 2024 is Friday, March 8, and this year’s theme is “Inspire Inclusion,” which encourages a collective effort to understand, value and advocate for women’s inclusion across all spheres of life.

This also includes highlighting some of the issues that women face, including women’s health issues, and working collectively to address them.

The World Health Organization (WHO) emphasizes the impact of sociocultural factors on women’s health, such as unequal power relationships, social norms limiting education and employment opportunities, the exclusive focus on women’s reproductive roles and potential or actual experience of physical, sexual and emotional violence. Some of the global women’s health issues that the agency is focusing on include maternal mortality, violence against women, adolescent pregnancy and female genital mutilation.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) highlights several areas of focus for women’s health, including lupus awareness, efforts to reduce black maternal mortality, support for women with disabilities and gynecologic cancer awareness.

Other issues include medical systems that can often be dismissive of women’s health concerns or experiences, and historically less research on women’s health, which together, can lead to late diagnoses or misdiagnoses.

To mark International Women’s Day 2024, Xtalks is bringing a focus to women’s health by highlighting some recent and upcoming Xtalks webinars across a range of different women’s health topics.

1. Nutritional Wellness for Women: Natural Solutions for Every Life Stage

In today’s health-conscious era, the importance of recognizing and addressing the distinct health needs and challenges that women face throughout their lives is being increasingly acknowledged. Women across different life stages are actively seeking ways to enhance their well-being, turning to dietary improvements and the strategic use of vitamins, minerals and supplements as a key method for achieving a healthier life.

A significant 58 percent of women worldwide have heightened their use of supplements to support overall wellness. aims to delve deep into the world of women’s health, offering insights into how dietary supplements can support women from adolescence to their later years. Industry professionals will explore the market, innovative formulations and nutritional solutions tailored to empower women toward optimal health and well-being. Register here for this upcoming webinar that will take place on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 | 9am EDT (NA) / 2pm BST (UK) / 3pm CEST (EU-Central).

2. Optimizing Sleep During Perimenopause and Beyond

Sleep plays a crucial role in overall health, particularly for midlife women transitioning into menopause, a phase marked by perimenopause where hormonal changes can severely disrupt sleep due to symptoms like nocturnal hot flashes. These disturbances are linked to insomnia, less restful sleep and potential cardiovascular issues during night-time awakenings.

Research at SRI International has highlighted the relationship between hormonal changes and sleep disruptions and developed systems to manage hot flashes. Furthermore, management options for sleep difficulties during menopause are expanding, including hormonal treatments, non-hormonal options and cognitive-behavioral therapy for insomnia, with evidence showing that non-pharmacological therapies can effectively improve sleep and reduce hot flash interference. This on-demand webinar delves into sleep’s importance for women’s health and discusses effective management strategies for sleep disturbances during perimenopause and beyond.

3. Perinatal Mood Disorders

Postpartum depression impacts 14 percent of women, presenting a significant risk not only to the mother’s health but also to the child’s well-being, including impaired maternal functioning and potential adverse effects on the child’s development. The condition may begin during pregnancy or shortly after childbirth, affecting around half of those diagnosed.

This on-demand webinar explores the perinatal period and related psychiatric conditions, focusing on perinatal mood disorders. Experts discuss the therapeutic landscape, treatment gaps, regulatory considerations and clinical trial strategies. The session covers various conditions, such as perinatal insomnia, mood disorders, anxiety and postpartum psychosis, alongside treatments ranging from psychotropics and specialized therapies to digital therapeutics.

4. Breast Cancer Multiomics: Unified Insights in Tumor Heterogeneity

This on-demand webinar introduces a cutting-edge single-cell multiomics method designed for garnering detailed genetic insights into breast cancer. A new workflow from BioSkryb Genomics merges extensive data from whole genome sequencing (WGS) and the focused insights gained from small, targeted panels that emphasize druggable targets. The company’s ResolveOME multiomic workflow provides a comprehensive multiomic analysis of breast cancer through the use of exome hybrid capture alongside a single-cell workflow for single-cell resolution of single nucleotide variants (SNVs), copy number alterations and gene expression signatures, coupled with a targeted protein panel. Through this, researchers can pinpoint breast cancer cell types and their phenotypic states.

The webinar provides insights into a novel method that facilitates detailed genetic analysis of breast cancer, marrying the depth of whole-genome studies with the precision of targeted analysis at the single-cell level.

5. Noninvasive Prenatal Testing: The Luna Prenatal Test for Isolation of Circulating Fetal Cells Early in Pregnancy

This on-demand webinar details the development and validation of the Luna Prenatal Test, showcasing its potential to revolutionize prenatal care by providing early, accurate and noninvasive genetic screening. By successfully isolating and genetically analyzing circulating fetal cells from maternal blood, overcoming the challenge of their rarity, the test represents a significant advancement in prenatal testing.

Using a combination of immunostaining, microfluidic enrichment, automated microscopy and single-cell isolation, the Luna Prenatal Test was clinically validated, demonstrating near-perfect agreement with results from traditional methods like chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis. The test accurately identified a range of genetic abnormalities, including trisomies and microdeletions. In a notable collaboration with Juno Genetics, the test was also applied to detect recessive monogenic disorders, such as Walker-Warburg syndrome. This advancement represents a significant leap forward in early pregnancy diagnosis of genetic disorders through noninvasive means.

Highlighting women’s health issues on International Women’s Day 2024 is of paramount importance as it aims to address the specific challenges and disparities that women face in accessing healthcare globally. The day provides a platform to advocate for gender-equitable health policies, increase awareness about diseases that disproportionately affect women, promote health education that empowers women to make informed decisions about their health and highlight cutting-edge research advancements and treatments for diseases and health conditions affecting women.

Addressing women’s health issues on this day also underscores the critical link between women’s health and broader socio-economic development. By focusing on women’s health, International Women’s Day helps to foster a more inclusive and equitable healthcare landscape, ensuring that the unique needs of women are met and their right to health is upheld.
