Advancing Diabetes Clinical Trials Through Integrated Technology and Operational Oversight
About this webinar
The diabetes clinical trial landscape is evolving rapidly. As type 1 diabetes programs expand and innovative therapies, including cell and gene therapies, move into clinical development, sponsors face increasing operational complexity. At the same time, digital technologies such as continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), blood glucose monitoring (BGM), eDiaries and ePROs are generating significant volumes of patient data. The challenge is no longer simply collecting data but integrating these technologies into a study strategy that delivers high-quality, reliable outcomes. This webinar will explore practical approaches to executing modern diabetes clinical trials by combining therapeutic expertise with coordinated operational oversight.
Using examples from type 1 diabetes while drawing on broader experience across type 2 diabetes and other metabolic indications, the featured speakers will discuss how sponsors can successfully implement digital technologies without increasing operational burden.
Attendees will gain practical insights into overcoming common operational challenges, improving data quality and designing diabetes studies that are better positioned for successful execution. Whether planning an early-phase proof-of-concept study or a global pivotal program, participants will gain actionable strategies for navigating the increasing complexity of today’s diabetes clinical trial environment.
Register for this webinar to learn how operational oversight can support reliable data, integrated technology and successful diabetes clinical trial execution.

Featured Speakers
Ruchi Bhabhra, MBBS, PhD
Dr. Ruchi Bhabhra is a board-certified Endocrinologist with certifications in both Endocrinology and Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine. She earned her Medical Degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and her PhD in Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine from the University of Cincinnati, where she subsequently joined the faculty and rose to Associate Professor in the Division of Endocrinology. In that role, she provided patient care across a broad range of endocrine conditions, established a neuroendocrine clinic in collaboration with the Neurosurgery department, and mentored Internal Medicine residents and Endocrinology fellows. Dr. Bhabhra’s therapeutic expertise includes obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, hyperlipidemia including rare and genetic forms and rare endocrine diseases such as acromegaly and Cushing’s disease, with experience across both adult and pediatric populations and Phase I-III study designs.
Eric Klett, MD
Dr. Eric Klett is a board-certified Endocrinologist with dual certifications in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and Internal Medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine. He received his MD from the Medical University of South Carolina, where he also completed his Internal Medicine residency and fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. Prior to joining Medpace, Dr. Klett held faculty appointments at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Vermont, where he directed the UVM Lipid Clinic and conducted NIH-funded research on the metabolic roles of glycerolipid synthesis enzymes in insulin resistance, diabetes, obesity and liver disease. His therapeutic expertise spans lipid disorders, type 1 and type 2 diabetes and liver disease including MASLD and MASH.
Salvatore Zabbatino, MD
Dr. Salvatore Zabbatino has over 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical and device clinical research. He has been a part of the Medpace leadership team since its founding in 1992, serving as Director in key departments. Dr. Zabbatino has held leadership roles across several areas, including Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Medical Writing, Biometrics/Data Management, IT, Imaging and Cardiovascular services. He focuses on integrating and optimizing the clinical, operational and technical aspects needed to conduct multinational studies across multiple therapeutic indications. Dr. Zabbatino has extensive experience with imaging and other biomarkers of drug and device safety and efficacy in clinical trials, including DXA (BMD and TBC), cardiac echo, cardiac SPECT, ultrasound, MR, CT, endoscopy, photography, ECG, Holter and ABPM.
Lauren Brown, MSc
Ms. Lauren Brown holds a Master of Science in Biology from the University of Cincinnati and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Ohio Northern University. She began her research career as a Head Research Assistant at the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, where she conducted laboratory investigations in metabolomics, fatty acid metabolism and host-parasite interactions. In her current position, she provides cross-functional oversight of global study operations, serving as primary sponsor contact and managing risk, site quality and monitoring deliverables in accordance with ICH/GCP guidelines. She has a therapeutic focus in metabolic and endocrine disorders, with experience in oversight of study endpoints related to CGM data capture.
Amanda Burton, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC
Ms. Amanda Burton is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner with 20 years of clinical experience spanning emergency medicine and endocrinology. She practiced in the Division of Endocrinology at University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine & UC Physicians for over four years, providing comprehensive care to adult endocrine patients as part of an interdisciplinary team. Prior to that, she spent nearly five years as a Charge Nurse at UC Health West Chester Hospital. Her therapeutic expertise covers metabolic and endocrine disorders, with specific focus on managing patients with T1D and T2D who use diabetes technology such as insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitoring thyroid disorders and obesity.
